Prehistoric Bodmin Moor and Mining around Minions

A tour around the Minions area of Bodmin Moor. Visit and learn about the prehistoric monuments of The Hurlers, Rillaton Barrow and Stowes Pound. Calum has worked as a geological advisor for two investigations into the Hurlers and has in depth knowledge about their creation. The tour includes the copper and tin mines of Phoenix Mine and South Caradon, the geological formation of this wealth and the lives of the miners that worked them. Also get to visit the granite quarries of Gold Diggings and Cheesewring, Daniel Gumbs Cave, The Cheesewring and much more.

Details

  • Up to 8 hour tour between 9am and 5pm as suits

  • Meet at the village of Minions on Bodmin Moor, car park is free of charge

  • The standard route consists of open moorland and footpaths and almost no walking along public roads

  • We will discuss your requirements in advance and make any suitable adjustments to ensure you have an enjoyable tour

  • See The Hurlers, The Cheesewring, Stowe’s Pound, Rillaton Barrow, South Phoenix Mine, South Caradon Mine and Cheesewring Quarry

  • Depending on any adjustments you request to the length of the tour also see; Gold Diggings Quarry, ‘Oh Dear’ rock, Phoenix Mine, East Caradon Mine

  • Option - Have a pub lunch at the Crow’s Nest (cost of food and drink not included in the tour price)

  • Option - A 30 minute walk down the lanes (being careful of traffic) to see Trethevy Quoit

  • Children welcome but must be supervised by an adult

  • Dogs are welcome but must be on a short lead at all times without exception
